What is CALM?

The Canadian Academy of Lifestyle Medicine (CALM) is a Non-Profit Organization started by ordinary Canadians within the Health Care System who are concerned about the epidemic of chronic illness and disease. 

Health care costs are spiraling out of control because we are not addressing the root causes of most of our chronic diseases: lifestyle choices.

We are inspired by leaders of Lifestyle Medicine organizations around the world, CALM is passionate about the health and wellbeing of all Canadians.

What CALM does

CALM promotes a philosophy of care that focuses on effective lifestyle choices as the first line of treatment and prevention.

CALM facilitates communication and connection between physicians, healthcare professionals and others who believe in health through healthy living.

CALM provides a forum for discussion on a wide variety of health and wellness issues including:

  • Healthy living
  • Healthy eating and nutrition
  • Promoting physical activity and exercise
  • Reducing stress, anxiety and depression
  • Better sleep
  • Weight loss, diet and obesity
  • How to quit smoking
  • Chronic conditions such as diabetes, arthritis, cancer, asthma, hypertension

CALM brings together evidence-based information, resources, advocacy, education, research, discussion and practical tools, accessible to both professionals the public.
